The Best in fashion 2014 - FREAKING Lupita Nyong'o!!!

Someone on MTV did this compilation of Lupita's style moments. Genious!

When I saw Lupita for the first time I just said: Hmmmm... she's got style. That skin is flawless, those gorgeous african features (reminder of Alek Wek and Ataui Deng) are exquisite.

Lupita... sigh

Then I discovered she was nominated to an Oscar for her role in "12 Years a Slave" (2013), directed by Steve McQueen (No, it's not Alexander McQueen's cousin, for the record:).

I inmediately started following her steps. She was everywhere. She won a SAG Award, of course the Oscar to the Best Supporting Actress, and a zillion more awards.

Born in Mexico, Kenyan heritage, fluent in English, Spanish and Swahili.

Lupita's US Vogue cover debut

Ahhhhh she's smart! Graduated from Hampshire College and YALE!!! F*ck yes, the girl besides being goooorgeous is very intelligent. She stole my heart...

Lupita's style was everywhere. She starred Miu Miu's campaign for spring 2014 (below), lots of photo spreads, unique red carpet moments and her latest achievement: a Lancôme campaign :)

The girl is something else, I can assure that.
Here's a compilation of her best style moments:
a. My favorite look from Dazed's photoshoot, wearing Céline

b. DAAAAAAAMMMNNNNN!!! This Oscars gown... a vision for today's princess. Perfection in Prada. Hell yesssss!!!

c. This Golden Globe Awards gown was exquisite, in Ralph Lauren

d. My favorite Lupita's photoshoot. For Vogue Italia, all pictures in Saint Laurent. As if Hedi Slimane thought about Lupita all the time to design this collection. It just fits like a glove on her. Lovely

The Best in fashion 2014 - At last! Margiela's Matthieu Blazy finally acknowledged

Maison Martin Margiela is for me something too special. When I get to rank each season's shows; MM Margiela occupies a place beyond special, along with all Japanese designers (Comme Des Garcons' Rei Kawakubo, Junya Watanabe, Issey Miyake, Undercover, Sacai among others). For me all of them are beyond good and evil. They all represent the innovative face of fashion nowadays.

Maison Martin Margiela's infamous masks
I personally love  Maison Martin Margiela's designs, Belgian house founded by Monsieur Martin Margiela, who sold to Renzo Rosso's Only the Brave group his company, and who always remained in absolute anonymity, showing on the catwalk merely deconstructivist lines, with unconventional silhouettes, unimaginable mix of textiles, use of recycled materials, and their famous masks that generated a very dramatic mood within their designs.

Martin Margiela's philosophy was to keep their workspace and their collaborators as if they were in a laboratory, even wearing white robes, and no one ever highlighted as a star designer, he used to let his creations speak for themselves.

When Renzo Rosso took over the company, he kept the same working creative atmosphere, and never attributed  Maison Martin Margiela's designs to a specific creative director; he attributed this work to an "in-house team."

FW 2015 Couture

The fact is that MM Margiela presented wonderful collections, and that all the fans wondered who designed such beauties, took Suzy Menkes, current editor in chief of Vogue's digital versions worldwide, to reveal during Paris Couture shows in July, 2014 who was the mastermind behind Margiela's designs. It was Matthieu Blazy, a former  Raf Simons' contributor, who led the Maison, and who created such out of this world collections.

Matthieu Blazy

Quoting Ms. Menkes: "It is understandable that Renzo Rosso, whose company Only the Brave is behind Margiela, should want to keep Blazy backstage - especially since the founding designer so rarely showed his face. But you can't keep such a talent under wraps."

Ms. Suzy Menkes herself

So thanks to Ms. Menkes we know who has been behind Maison Martin Margiela all this time :)

The Best in fashion 2014 - Luella and Katie at Marc by Marc Jacobs

This one has been one of the smartest moves I've seen in Fashion Business lately.

Luella Bartley - a very talented designer, very popular in the late 90's with her irreverent style, a Central St. Martin graduate, and Katie Hillier - an extremely brilliant jewelry designer, as well as Marc Jacobs' 12 years collaborator (http://shop.hillierlondon.com/), have joined forces to change Marc by Marc Jacobs' face on this 2014.

Marc Jacobs is a multi millionaire company, that has tremendously succeeded around the world, and its daughter line let's say, Marc by Marc Jacobs definitely needed something different.

FW2014 backstage
This injection of energy came from these two talented ladies, who presented their first collection in New York, during the Fall 2014 presentations. Everyone had such high expectations, knowing the newly appointed designers' reputation, and they just delivered the best.
A mix of hentai powerful, a bit masculine - agressive - ninja woman, with a biker vibe in an amazing setting, that left all fashion lovers speechless. Just amazing!

My favorite outfit from FW2014 (Irina Kravchenko modeling)

Below you'll see Fall Winter 2014's ad campaign. Katie and Luella recruited their models through Instagram... that's quite unique and pretty effective :) They caught my attention at least with this.

Then it came their collection for Resort 2015 (a brilliant collection) and their Spring 2015 one, which was inspired in the 90's rave underworld.

These amazing ladies have just given a new approach to MBMJ, and I just can't wait to see what comes next.

LVMH and Mr. Jacobs himself have made a great decision with this appointment. Cheers!

The Best in fashion 2014 - Dries Van Noten Spring Summer 2015

Hmmm... my first post. I've always dreamed to share with everyone about what I love.

Fashion, art, travel, food, wine, architecture, culture... Now and after chatting for years with good friends of mine, I decided to start writing this blog. My first post is about the best fashion moments and events I saw during this 2014. Special moments I enjoyed seeing. For those who would read this, you might agree or not, but as I said, it's just my opinion, a 3rd. world fashion geek's one.

They are not ranked in any particular order, and I will post them separately, not all in one post.

Here I go:

Dries Van Noten, Spring - Summer 2015

I'm going to be honest, I like what Mr. Van Noten has done before, but I've never been highly impressed by his work. Now, this collection moved me somehow, it touched my soul.
Was it maybe that sense of being in such a natural calming stage where the models looked so relaxed and comfortable. A chilled Coachella or Glastonbury, maybe during The XX, James Blake, FKA twigs or Sigur Rós sessions feel? Maybe...

Was it the soundtrack performed by the belgian avant garde band Oscar and the Wolf? Maybe...

Was it that mix of patterns in fabrics, the flow of pieces, those coats Jamie Bochert and Hanne Gaby Odiele wore on the runway? Maybe...
Was it that lay-down finale, who was absolutely breath taking, never seen and totally unexpected? Maybe.

One thing I know for sure, this Dries Van Noten ss2015 collection is a new outstanding chapter in the story of Paris Fashion Week. Memorable.
